After continued research and development, the Avatar-M project has started another series of trials for end-user scenarios.
The intention of these trials is to test the technologies within the project against the needs of end-users.
Should you have an interest in participating in these trials, please send an e-mail enquiry along with your contact details to enquiries@avatar-m.org.uk

Due to the work undertaken on extending the capabilities of the Avatar-m systems, we don’t have a dedicated stand at NAB 2010 this year.
We do however have some representatives there, who you will be able to find on stand SL10508 in the Lower South Hall.
So if you’d like to discuss Avatar-m and what it could do for you, then please come along and have a chat with us.

Our thanks to all of you that have an interest in the Avatar project and have either contacted us through this site, or visited us at one of our stands.
We have now created a short survey in the hope that we can use the information and feedback to tailor the outputs from the project to best meet the needs of users.
This survey can be found here and we would appreciate any feedback and comments you may have.

It was a fantastic week at IBC in Amsterdam. Not only did we get a good range of visitors to our stand, but pretty much everyone took the time to find out all about our project. Though the show was slightly down on visitor numbers, those who were there, were there to do business. We’ve come away with lot’s of new thoughts and input for the development of the system and exploring the exploitation and productisation phase of the project.
We’ve had some useful comments and feedback and should hopefully be sending out further details soon.

Following on from the succesful demonstration of the Avatar-m systems earlier this year, we will be attending IBC 2009 in Amsterdam.
Here we will be showing our latest technology and the improvements we’ve made since our last public demonstration.
If you have an interest in our technology, or wish to see what Avatar-m can do for your archives and storage systems then come along and pay us a visit at stand A 08e in Hall 7 (Map availailable here).

For the past few weeks now we have been trialling the ASTOR systems in the BBC’s R&D facilities in Surrey, testing the system against our array of network and storage analysis tools.
With the kit in situ at Kingswood Warren for the summer, it’ll be used to explore the potential use of this sort of technology in the BBC’s future deep digital archive. We’ll be able to expose it to our latest high definition workflows, and stress test it across simulated networks.
By the time the kit is boxed up ad hits the road for Amsterdam and IBC, the BBC will have put it through it’s paces and we’ll be a good deal further down the road to productisation.

It’s been a fantastic week at NAB in Las Vegas. Not only did we get a brilliant range of visitors to our stand, but pretty much everyone took the time to find out all about our project. Though the show was down oin visitor numbers, those who were there, were there to do business. We’ve come away with lot’s to catch up on in terms of development of the software and exploring the exploitation and productisation phase of the project, and there’s a real urgency behind delivering systems and services for user to put into action.
Of course, NAB was only really a warm up show for us! It’s been our intention to show off the full finished research project at IBC for some years now, so stay tuned for updates on that show. We’re looking into potential stand partners there, and defining what our presence should be exactly, but do stay in touch and we’ll see you in September!
P.S. Email is now working well so if you have emailed us via the site earlier, and not had a response, do please try again.

Thanks so much to all of you to have come by the stand, got in touch via twitter, or emailed us. Unfortunately we’ve had a glitch with our email service, so if you’ve dropped us an email in the last couple of days could we ask you to try again?
Our email (now fully functional) is enquiries@avatar-m.org.uk.

We’re rolling into the final day of what has been a tremendously exciting and worthwhile NAB09 for us. For the next five hours you can still come along to SU7235 and see the demonstration of our groundbreaking archive managment software, and discuss with the developers and researchers themselves how we might potentially cooperate in the future. If you think this might be of use to you, please do come along today- we do have colleagues based in the US, but we’ll not be bringing these demonstrations over again, and unless you’ll be at IBC 09 in september, this really could be the last chance to see.
